Empty Night Skies

I was asked by illustrator—and fellow Class of 2001 UArts Alum—Mike Bukowski to create a bat-related illustration for "Empty Night Skies," a show to benefit Bat Conservation International and raise awareness about White Nose Syndrome. BCI is an international non-governmental organization working to conserve the world’s bats and their habitats through conservation, education and research efforts.

Starting with the opening reception this Friday, at Grindcore House in South Philadelphia, my painting and other fantastic artworks will be on exhibit and for sale through June 13th, with all proceeds going to benefit BCI. Here is an in-progress preview, and a close up detail of my contribution, as well as the flyer for the event.

"White-Nose Syndrome (WNS) is a disease associated with the deaths of at least 5.7 million to 6.7 million North American bats which causes them to awaken more often during hibernation and use up the stored fat reserves that are needed to get them through the winter. Infected bats often emerge too soon from hibernation and are often seen flying around in midwinter. These bats usually freeze or starve to death."†
